The organizer of the Mobile World Congress – GSMA – asks the Government of Barcelona to introduce a state of emergency to cancel the exhibition due to an outbreak of coronavirus. It is reported by the publication Wired.
This Friday, the Barcelona authorities and the organizers of the exhibition will hold a meeting at which a decision will be made. In case of cancellation, the parties will have to resolve a number of formal and financial issues. The introduction of a state of emergency will cover part of the cost of organizing the exhibition with the help of insurance.
GSMA monitors the situation around the epidemic. The company consults with international and Spanish experts in the field of healthcare, as well as partners of the exhibition, to ensure the safety of its participants.
Due to the epidemic outbreak, Facebook, Amazon, LG, Intel, Ericsson, Vivo, ZTE, Nvidia, Cisco, Sony, HMD Global, Volvo and TCL refused to participate in the exhibition. Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi and Motorola said they intend to stay at the exhibition.
