“Solar panels will be printed like newspapers”: scientists predict a breakthrough for new material

Perovskite solar panels can make a breakthrough in the renewable energy market because of their price and strength, but millions of dollars are needed to widely implement the new technology.

This is stated in a study by MIT News. The authors note that perovskite can become a new generation of materials for photovoltaic modules, so they can be printed in bulk, like newspapers.

A study by a group of scientists showed that only $ 40 million is enough to break through technology from laboratories to the market. Therefore, the situation on the solar panel market can change from day to day due to the spread of perovskite module technology. The low price of this material and its physical properties will significantly reduce the price of solar panels and increase their efficiency

The fear of market participants is making it difficult to make a difference in investing in new technology, while the old silicon panel brings a high and stable income. It is difficult for startups who want to work with new materials to attract tens of millions of dollars, the newspaper notes.

An analysis by the US Department of Energy and an alliance of scientists from Singapore found that perovskite could start from niche markets, such as the Internet of Things or energy-efficient buildings. Subsequently, gradually expanding, the technology can capture more massive industries until it reaches the industrial production of solar panels
