Huawei P40 Pro will get Sony IMX700 sensor to compete with Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

This week, Samsung introduced its 108 megapixel ISOCELL Bright HMX1 sensor, which was installed in the Galaxy S20 Ultra. This 1/1.33-inch sensor with a pixel size of 0.8 microns and its chip was Nonacell technology, combining 9 adjacent pixels in a 3×3 scheme into one 2.4 micron large one.

As expected, Sony is preparing its answer to this module. And it’s about the Sony IMX700 sensor.

The novelty will be a 52-megapixel sensor and the RYYB color filter will find its application in it. Its size will be 1/1.33 inches and the key feature will be the grouping of 16 pixels into one according to the 4×4 scheme. Thus, an imitation of one large pixel up to 4.48 microns in size will be achieved. In theory, this should improve the quality of images created in low ambient light.

The first smartphone to receive a Sony IMX700 sensor will be the Huawei P40 Pro. A 40-megapixel wide-angle module, a ToF sensor and a telephoto lens with a periscope for 10x optical zoom will help him.

Recall that the premiere of the Huawei P40 series should be held on March 26. It will include two flagships with a proprietary Kirin 990 chip, OLED panels, with a minimum of 8 GB of RAM, support for fast and wireless charging, and should also offer batteries with a capacity of at least 4000 mAh.
