Chinese company BYD at the exhibition United Motorcoach Assocation in the United States showed an electric double-decker bus C10MS.
This is reported by BusinessInsider. The manufacturer promises a capacity of 77 passengers with an autonomous range of 370 km.
Engineers installed 446 kWh iron-phosphate batteries in the bus, which are fully charged in 2-2.5 hours and provide maximum synchronous motor power of 2x 80 kW at a maximum speed of 105 km/h. With an industry-leading 12-year warranty, BYD batteries do not need to be replaced within the standard battery life.
The vehicle with zero emissions and low noise level is designed for 77 seated passengers, including two people in wheelchairs, and is intended for use both as urban public transport and for intercity transportation.
The bus is almost 14 meters long, 2.6 meters wide and 4 meters high. Thus, the BYD bus is currently the largest in its class.
It is emphasized separately that an electric power plant is much cheaper to maintain and operate than gasoline counterparts.
“Experts predict a sharp increase in the number of electric buses in the coming years. The main advantage of this transport is the economic aspect – in almost all tariff configurations, the total cost of owning electric municipal buses is lower than that of traditional vehicles with fossil fuel engines,” the publication notes.
